Travel Apps for Windows 8
At The Tech Bird, we're big fans of both travel and technology so it's only natural that we look at where the two intersect in the form of travel apps. This app roundup is from Kaitlin Guertin, the editor here at The Tech Bird.
I've spent most of my life traveling around the United States and Europe and I can't recall a time I went longer than three months without packing a bag and boarding a plane. I'm the middle child of a commercial airline pilot and both of my parents encouraged experiencing different cultures and an appreciation of the rich history of each location. My love for travel has not abated and so it's with my favourite topic in mind that I bring you these handy apps for Windows 8. Why Windows 8 you ask? Well, the Microsoft Surface is my new toy and is quite the helpful travel companion.
Want to find flights for the lowest costs? Skyscanner allows you to search over 1,000 airlines in moments to with destinations all over the world. If you don't have a preference for a specific airline, this app is fantastic. Once the flight is selected, you're directed to the airline or travel agent without having to leap through hoops or fill out surveys. Free
I can't count the number of times I've arrived at the airport only to discover that my flight has been delayed . FlightPredictor lets you check on your flight before you even get to the airport. The app also includes terminal maps of major United States airports; an added benefit if you're traveling to an unfamiliar airport! Unfortunately, the app only works with domestic flights so those of us who frequently jump across the pond are out of luck! $1.99
